Important information for international students

Code of Practice:
IVY College of New Zealand has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Minister of Education. Copies of the Code are available on request from this institution or from the New Zealand Ministry of Education website.

Medical and Travel Insurance:
Most students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand unless they are:

  • A resident or citizen of Australia; or
  • A national of the United Kingdom in New Zealand; or
  • The holder of a temporary permit that is valid for two years or more.
If you do not belong to one of these special categories and you receive medical treatment during your visit, you will be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at http://www.moh.govt.nz
International students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance While studying in New Zealand.

Medical Insurance is compulsory for all international IVY College of New Zealand students. Please visit the web-site for the costs of insurance that will cover the cost of medical treatment and loss of non-refundable deposits (including IVY College Of New Zealand fees) in New Zealand for the duration of your stay in New Zealand.

Accident Insurance:
The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand Citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you still may be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at http//www.acc.co.nz

Immigration:
Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service.



Refund Policy
Tuition fees will be refunded promptly by Ivy College of New Zealand in the case of cancellation, or due to failure to obtain a visa or permit, as per the refund policy outlined below. A student must submit a refund request in writing to the counsellor or receptionist. Refund forms are available from the reception.

  • 14 days or more before course commencement 100% refund.
  • For courses of less than 5 weeks Withdrawal up until the end of the 2nd day of a course less than 5 weeks – 50% refund of tuition fees paid. No refund from day 3 onwards.
  • For courses between 5 weeks and 12 weeks Withdrawal up until the end of the 5th consecutive day of a course longer than 5 weeks but less than 12 weeks -75% refund of tuition fees paid. No refund from day 6 onwards.
  • For courses of 13 weeks and longer Withdrawal up until the end of the 8th consecutive day of a course longer than 13 weeks – 100% refund less administration costs of up to 10% of the total fee or $500, whichever is the lesser. No refund from day 9 onwards.


Policy:Students fees protection

Student's fees are protected in a NZQA approved trust fund.

PROCEDURE: STUDENT FEE PROTECTION Ivy College New Zealand has set up a trust account in compliance with the legislated refund requirements of Section 236A of the Education Act 1989 as follows. The trust account is managed by Public Trust. Details of the trust account for Ivy College are available in the invoice and enrolment form. Student fees are paid directly into the trust account.
